Tragic Poet

“You must learn some of my philosophy. Think only of the past as its remembrance gives you pleasure.”

My name is Emma. I was named after the Jane Austen book of the same title. It was her who penned the above quote.

My camera’s name is Meredith. She was named after Taylor Swift’s cat.

I take photos, I write about life, I wear bows in my hair and I love colourful plaid.

My photographic journey began 7 years ago when I was diagnosed with chronic myopia – or as it’s better known, shortsightedness.

I wanted to document the world, to see what my naked eye refused to acknowledge on its own. In the years since that day, the mechanical eye has became the extension of my own vision.

I have had some amazing experiences photographing around my home on the New South Wales Central Coast, and abroad – including the opportunity to spend a month documenting an archaeological dig in Greece.

Currently, I am studying a Bachelor of Arts/ Media Communications at the University of Sydney. I will graduate in 2016. After that, Meredith and I begin the adventure of 9-5 work days, long commutes to the soundtrack of snoring businessmen and of course, uncomfortable footwear. Lots and lots of uncomfortable footwear.

Photography is the art of remembrance. That is my philosophy.
